The monastery of Santa María de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat, belonging to the region of Bages, province of Barcelona, at a height of 720 meters above sea level. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Monistrol de Montserrat, although some of its adjacent lands enter the municipality of Collbató. It is a symbol for Catalonia and has become a pilgrimage point for believers and a must for tourists. The legend places the discovery of the image of the Virgin of Montserrat around the year 880. Then the cult to the Moreneta began. However, the origin of the monastery is uncertain: it is known that, around 1011, a monk from the monastery of Santa María de Ripoll came to the mountain to take charge of the monastery of Saint Cecilia, leaving the monastery under the orders of Abbot Oliba of Ripoll.

Valencia can be a city of topics: light, moon, gunpowder, paella, flowers, faults. They are keys to trying to explain what, in reality, cannot be counted with words. It is necessary to visit and get to know Valencia to see that centuries-old traditions coexist alongside modernity. That the sea and the city are compatible. That the green of the orchard can be kept next to a modern urban plot. That, day and night, Valencia is unique. Now, the capital of the Turia, is more. In addition to the countless attractions that the city has had for centuries, there are a number of striking infrastructures such as the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, which, as could not be otherwise in this enclave, are linked to culture.

Valencia was founded by the Romans as a colony in 138 BC. Being consul Tenth June Gross Galaico, and was called Valentia Edetanorum. Several centuries later, in the year 711, the Muslims occupied the city contributing their language, religion and customs, such as the establishment of irrigation systems and the introduction of new crops. In 1238 the Christian king James I of Aragon reconquered the city, and divided the lands among the nobles who helped him to conquer it, as attested in the Llibre del Repartiment, as well as created a new law for the city, the Fueros de Valencia The city is located on the banks of the river Turia, on the Levantine coast of the Iberian peninsula, right in the center of the Gulf of Valencia, although at the time the Romans founded it, it was on a river island of the Turia, about four kilometers away from the sea. About ten kilometers south of the city is the Albufera de Valencia.

valencia

Few cities like Valencia are able to harmoniously coexist the remains of its most remote past, dating back to 138 BC, with the most innovative and avant-garde buildings that rise in the new millennium. Valencia is commerce and culture, cinema, theatre, museums, music, business. It is a centre of international design and avant-garde, and one of the most active cities at fairs and congresses in Europe. Due to its geographical location, Valencia has historically been Spain’s gateway to the Mediterranean, and has the special charm of the cities that are seaport. In addition, the fine sand and clean water, the amplitude of the open sea and the proximity of the coastal mountains give the Valencian coast a singular attraction.
